COURSE OUTLINE
Classroom
theory:
Introduction,
goals.
Anatomy &
physiology, skeleton, unsoundnesses & blemishes. Anatomy of the foot, hoof
care, shoeing.
Teeth,
identification.
Preventive
medicine (vaccinations, parasite control, teeth care)
Feeding
Principles of
riding - flat.
Basic gaits
& figures. Transitions, lateral work.
Principles of
riding over fences.
Longeing
Advanced
grooming, trimming, clipping.
Hoof care.
Bandaging,
poultices
Preparing the
horse for trailering
First aid: TPR,
capillary refill, dehydration.
Measuring for
weight, height.
Teeth
identification.
First aid for
wounds.
Communication
with vet. Routine vet care.
Equipment:
bridles snaffle & double, assembling a bridle, bits, martingales, saddles,
crib strap, protective leg gear, adjusting spurs
Longeing
Riding on the
flat
Practice Level
3 flat test
Practice ride
Level 3 gymnastic line - with & without stirrups
Practice ride
Level 3 2'9" course
Duration: 6
months (two sessions) (48 hours)
One evening per
week, 2 hour class (24 classes).
