theory: Introduction, goals. Evolution of the horse. Parts of the horse,
skeleton, breeds. The nature of the horse, body language. Equipment –
saddles & fittings

Practical: How to measure for height & weight. How to fit saddles
& fittings and check for safety.
2) Classroom
theory: Bandaging and protective leg gear
Barn Practical: practice

3) Classroom
theory: The horse’s natural balance and center of gravity.
Conformation and movement.
Barn Practical: Conformation

4) Classroom
theory: Riding Theory Part 1. The basic gaits & school figures,
Rider’s aids. Riding Etiquette. Position, dressage seat and jumping
seat. Principles of Riding on the flat. Principles of riding over fences.
5) Classroom
theory: Riding Theory Part 2
6) Arena:
Flat riding.
Barn Practical:
Equipment – bridles & bits & blankets. Fitting and adjusting.
7) Classroom
theory: The equine foot & farrier care. The digestive system &
feeding. Problems of the digestive system. Colic.
Barn Practical: foot
care and poulticing.
8) Arena:
Over fences
Barn Practical:
Equipment- martingales, breastplates, halters
9) Classroom
theory: Preventive medicine. Dental care. Stable vices. Turn-out.

10) Classroom
theory: Illnesses, unsoundnesses & blemishes.

Practice riding Level 2 flat test.
